Aerogel

Lightweight, Low density, High performance

An extremely lightweight, highly porous solid material where the liquid component of a gel has been replaced with gas — typically air — without collapsing its internal structure. Because of its structure, aerogel is often called “frozen smoke” or “solid air.” Aerogel is widely used where space is limited but insulation performance must be high. Most common aerogels are made from: Silica (silicon dioxide), Carbon aerogels, Polymer aerogels and Metal oxide aerogels (for specialized uses).
